2019 WSMTA Leadership Seminar

Starts: Saturday September 21, 2019 at 12:00 p.m.

Finishes: Sunday September 22, 2019 at 12:00 p.m.

Hilton Garden Inn, Yakima WA

Supported by the WSMTA Teacher Enrichment Fund

This is a once-a-year opportunity for Chapter Presidents, District VPs, chairs of all our state programs, Education Board and Board of Directors to meet together to share important information about our state and local programs for both teachers and students as we begin a new year.

For many years, leaders and members attended the seminar at their own expense for all costs: meeting room, food, housing, speaker fees. With the growth of the Teacher Enrichment Fund, the cost for attendees is minimal. This fund pays for half the hotel rate for each leader, hotel meeting room rent and equipment needs, speaker fees (including travel and meals), and additional food costs. The Teacher Enrichment Fund also totally covers the cost for the biennial adjudicator conference. Member dues, participation in WSMTA events, and your donations have created an affordable, professional and inspirational event for our WSMTA leadership volunteers.

For 2019, collaboration, community and creativity are the focus of the WSMTA Leadership Seminar, “Lead Like a Penguin.”  WSMTA’s own DMA violinist turned corporate leadership trainer, Holly Eckert-Lewis, will present on “The Anatomy of Generosity: What makes people want to sign up, show up, and keep up the good work.”

The seminar will feature small group creative projects, discussion, a rookery simulation, and speed mentoring—a chance for everyone to get their most burning question answered!

A link to the registration form is below.  You can reserve your room at the Hilton Garden Inn, online or call (509)454-1111.  If you call, be sure to mention WA State Music Teachers Association for a special room rate!  There are a limited number of rooms and the deadline to receive the WSMTA rate is August 30.

Much of the cost of the Leadership Seminar is underwritten by WSMTA. If you register with a roommate, the cost of your lodging is completely covered. If you’d like help finding a roommate, please contact Kathy Mortensen. Many chapters will also reimburse their leaders for the registration fee, which covers the cost of three meals and a snack on Saturday. The Yakima Hilton Garden Inn is an excellent facility located in the center of our state, which helps balance the travel time for all attendees.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE for 2019 Leadership Seminar: September 6, 2019.
