Melanie Stroud, WSMTA Music Literacy Program Chair

As we enter into a new school year, I wanted to give you a couple of updates about the Music Literacy Program! The main feedback I was receiving was that chapters needed their funds faster, so we decided to approach MLP billing like we do with MAP. Teachers will now register their students and pay the state fee online, then send their chapter fees directly to the program chair of their chapter. This should allow chapters to have the funds they need to run their events, and will make less work for our illustrious treasurer as well. I am using August to go through all of the Set 1 tests again, to try to catch any issues. As you may be aware, the tests were provided to us as PDFs, so they’re not terribly easy to edit, but we will do the best we can. If you notice an error, please put it in the feedback portion of your chapter profile at the end of your event. Luckily, we are all excellent musicians and can catch mistakes to allow students to get the scores they deserve. Thank you for your grace and patience as we continually work to improve this program in our state. I wish you all the very best as you jump into the new school year, guiding and shaping young musicians!
