WSMTA chapters and districts are pleased to honor the students who work hard to participate in the Music Artistry Program by inviting some to perform in recitals at the annual state conference in June.

Young Composer Project and Commissioned Composer of the Year Concert

About the Young Composer Project
The Young Composers Project gives students of WSMTA members the opportunity to submit their original compositions for judging and comments by qualified adjudicators.  First-place winners are invited to perform their compositions at the WSMTA Conference each June.

About the Commissioned Composer of the Year: Nicole Buetti
To encourage the creation of new music by American composers, the Washington State Music Teachers Association partners with the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) to commission new works.   Each year, WSMTA commissions a Washington State composer to write a composition to be premiered at the State Conference in June.

Washington Winners and Duo Cascadia Concert

Join competition winners from across Washington state as well as Duo Cascadia, featuring Kay Zavislak and Jensina Oliver performing one piano, four-hands works by Mozart, Brahms, Katsuhiro Oguri, Yoshinao Nakada, and Mendelssohn.
