Guidelines and criteria for student video submissions
Due to the current public health situation, your chapter or district State Recitalist selection cannot be held in a Live Performance Format, and has converted to a Video Submission Format. Deadlines and registration requirements are set by your chapter or district. If you have questions, contact WSMTA administrative coordinator, Carrie Kahler.
Record your selection(s) as many times as you would like, and submit your preferred version. Use your own piano, your teacher’s piano, or find another instrument on which you have permission to record.
Recordings must consist of unedited, uninterrupted video footage of the participant from a single camera angle with coverage at all times of the performer’s hands and face (required) and feet (if possible).
Recordings can begin with the participant stating his or her name or entrant number in a clear voice, unless chapter or district guidelines specify otherwise.
Recordings must be cued to begin within five seconds after the performer identifies him or herself.
Recordings must feature the work with which the participant originally entered.
Recordings must be uploaded to YouTube with visibility set to “Unlisted” (do not choose “Public” or “Private”). This will create a link for you to copy and paste into the online submission form.
Only people with the link will have access to view your video.
If you are not familiar with uploading videos to YouTube, please watch this tutorial.
Please scan copies of your music and upload it here, one file per piece, with the performer’s last name, composer, and title of the piece as the file name. Example: Smith_Chopin_PreludeInDb
While a scanner will give the best results, it is perfectly acceptable to use your phone and take a picture, or use a scanning app.
Thank you for your flexibility in these trying times! We think you will find a silver lining in the process of creating your video entries!
