Hello Teachers!
What have been some of your favorite pieces to teach this year? Are you discovering new approaches to your pedagogy that feel lifegiving? I’m going to encourage you in this newsletter to call a colleague and share. The community we share in this organization is something I continue to be grateful for as an independent music teacher. In addition, I’m encouraged by teachers who are beginning their Certification projects as a group!
It’s my honor to announce the four teachers who recently received their National Certification from the Music Teachers National Association. Congratulations to Dawn Taylor-May, Jason Kuo, Laura Curtis, Ross Salvosa! Your commitment to your profession is inspiring.
Do you want to join these teachers this year as a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music? If so, there are five teacher profile projects to complete highlighting your approach to music education as well as recording 3 piano lessons. I find that the questions MTNA asks teachers gives an opportunity for self reflection and growth. For those who work at a University, there is an Administrative Verification option for Certification as well.
Lastly, I wanted you to know WSMTA has a $100 grant available for teachers applying for Certification that covers half the cost of the application. To apply, visit the WMSTA website and click on “Certification Grant Application” under the “Certification” tab found under “For Teachers.”
I look forward to hearing from you with any questions you have as you get started!
