Celebrating You

Hello teachers!

As I’m writing this article, I’m listening to a Certification applicant’s performance of English Suite No. 2 in A minor BWV 807 by Bach. I’ve had the honor of evaluating Teacher Profile Projects submitted by teachers across the Northwest Division the last 2 years. In that time, I’ve read over 30 applicants’ projects and heard their performances. They were folks who had recently graduated college, or taught for 10 years, or taught for 30 years. The theme I noticed throughout every teacher’s writing and lesson recordings was a passion for equipping students of all ages with a well-rounded music education. I learned so much from each teacher and am inspired in my own practice to continue learning. I celebrate each one of these applicants for the self-reflection and growth they experienced through MTNA Certification!

In addition, I’m celebrating 6 members of WSMTA who received their National Certification of Music in Piano this year. I’m looking forward to announcing their names at our 2025 WSMTA Conference “Connections on the Columbia” this June! I hope to see you there, too. On Sunday, June 29, I’ll be presenting a workshop called “MTNA Certification for You.” We’ll walk through the 5 teacher profile projects and I’ll share how I see the MTNA Certification Program supportive for your journey as an independent, professional music educator. I look forward to the WSMTA Conference and connecting with you!
