Registration, Paperwork, and Billing, Oh My!

For most chapters, the Music Literacy Program is upon us! Hopefully you all have found the new registration process fairly painless. You simply go to the state website, to the MLP page, register each student for each test that your chapter offers at their correct level, and then pay the class fees when your cart is complete!

In order to ease this process, you can fill out the registration worksheet by hand, and have it by you at your computer as you register students. I highly recommend this, and then check each student off as you go!

Since we are only collecting state fees per student at this time, your chapter chair will need to collect chapter fees. Our wonderful chair in my Kitsap Chapter, Diane Layton, plans to send out bills to each teacher after registration has closed, taking into account things that we have implemented in our chapter, such as family discounts.

Now these paperwork things may seem cumbersome and taxing, but keep your mind on the benefit to our students! At my end of the year group lessons, I have students fill out a survey about the year. I always have a question on there that asks about their favorite event of the year, and nine times out of ten, they say our Music Carnival, which is the Kitsap chapter’s vehicle for the MLP! Imagine that! Students’ favorite event is our tests!?! It’s all about how you frame the event, and about the encouragement and attitude with which we approach them as teachers. Set them up for success, and then praise them when they achieve it!

As always, email me anytime with questions or ideas for future articles or suggestions for the program. Happy Testing, everyone!
