Clarification on Registration Process
- Please book time slots longer than 2x the playing time. If you are not quite sure about the playing time at the time of registration, please err on the generous side. Students may be cut off at half time to allow for Visiting Artist feedback. Teachers: please do not ask Visiting Artists to allow the entire time slot for playing; that could be interpreted as disrespectful.
- One MAP order, one event. Please do not register multiple events in one MAP order (one credit card transaction). We have to manually parse the order to attribute the revenue and credit card fee into several events when you do that. For example, if you have students in a vocal event, a strings event, and a piano event, please register them under three separate orders. Please do not forget to register yourself for each event. All teachers are required to register themselves for oral/written consultation in each event their students participate.
- MAP Grants are available for students with financial need. Each teacher may apply up to two MAP Grants. You may submit a MAP Grant application after you have placed your MAP order.
Double Time Slots are Available
For students working on standard concert repertoire, for example, a Chopin Nocturne or a movement of Beethoven Sonata, our guideline of purchasing twice the length of playing time may not offer the best learning experience.
Teachers may purchase two time slots for one student if needed. The way to do so is to enter the student name slightly differently for the second time slot. (For example, use “Jane2 Doe” as the student name for Jane Doe when purchasing a second time slot.) Our Chapter Report Tool does not pick up duplicate registration for a student. So whenever you purchase two time slots for the same student name I must manually refund you. By entering the student name slightly differently you can avoid this issue.
Longer time slots allow Visiting Artists to work at a more leisurely pace: Visiting Artists are not constantly writing, and can afford to let students explore different ideas before settling on one. It’s a win-win for both students and Visiting Artists.
Last year I purchased 30 minutes for each student who played about 10 minutes of advanced repertoire (etudes of Rachmaninov, Debussy, and Scriabin, for example). The Visiting Artist and the students had a great time exploring new ideas and new sounds. Thirty minutes was hardly enough for such intense exchange of thoughts. After MAP every student came to the lessons with a glowing smile, eager to work. It is very gratifying as a teacher to see students inspired to learn. This year I am planning to purchase up to an hour for each of my advanced students! I can’t thank the Visiting Artists enough for inspiring my students!
