Competition days are drawing closer! This year is extra exciting because it is the 20th year of this competition! In addition, we have added another aspect of competition with the introduction of our BIPOC, Women & Underrepresented Composers Award. We are very pleased that 17 of our 45 entrants have chosen to have one of their pieces of repertoire considered for the new prize! 10 Junior Division students and 7 Senior Division students opted for this consideration, so we believe it’s a great start for this part!

I am impressed every year with the capable and willing WSMTA leadership team and other folks from our membership that travel and work so hard to make this a memorable experience for our students. We enjoy being together, as it feels like a reunion of sorts!

We are honored to welcome our 2024 Judges: Dr. Lisa Bergman, NCTM, Dr. Yelena Balabanova, NCTM, and Dr. Roger McVey, NCTM. You can find their photos and bios here. We are very fortunate to have each one of them with us, and thank them for giving us their time, energy and thoughtful comments.

I wish all the participants great preparation and joy with their performances. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at our performance space at Central Washington University.
